Press J to jump to the feed. Feeds | My suggestion would be to cut a Chariot and probably an Epiphany for 2 more Doomskar. But we dont. Arena Standard - BROODMUTH SCUTE SWARM. Commanding Conclusion. I suggest picking the most powerful engine you have in your hand at the time to put on the battlefield. A non-human is so perfect for mutate. But it does get much more powerful after your fifth land drop since you get more Scute Swarms and put counters on them. Season of Growth gives you a truly awesome benefit to your mutate casts. I think the downside to playing Greathorn is low. Where mutate has generally failed in Commander by concentrating everything into a single creature to get their benefits, youll be able to spread the love around and still get one massive mutation out of it. MTG Arena Zone is supported by its audience. Only one can do commander damage (which will have all the auras attached to it), but when you suddenly have upwards of ten of them swinging in, it starts to become a bit much. I also cut Scavenging Ooze because it just doesnt have a lot of targets here. I cut Mammoth because while it is the most power we can have on a single creature, thats all it is. Auspicious Starrix. The MTG Hero. Let's go all-in on ultimating it with the help of proliferate spells like Volt Charge and Staff of Compleation and find out! I am a consistent high Mythic ranked player. But I dont think we play the right cards to make it good enough for us. Weekly drafts featuring a variety of formats new and old. Share. 1 Nahiri's Lithoforming. Seems fitting. Elspeth Conquers Death removes whatever we need since most of their deck is CMC 3 or more. As far as changes to make to the budget build of the deck, I'm pretty happy with the main deck. 4 Cultivate (M21) 177 Low Curve Deck - You need 2 lands on turn 2 but would like 3 lands on turn 3 for some 3-drops . Rounding out our deck is some early-game ramp. My personal information may be used for the purposes defined in the privacy policy. My reasoning is that Greathorn dodges a lot of their removal outside of a kicked Bloodchiefs and Hagra Mauling which they dont normally run and if they do it is in small numbers. Then, at the end step of the turn before your own, you cast Topiary Stomper, search for a land, and put it on the battlefield tapped, copying that mutated Scute Swarm. As a secondary measure, Ive also included Triumph of the Hordes so that all you will need to do is sneak through a 10/10 with infect or throw the big buys over the wall to hit your opponents with enough to end it. This issue is often when we use his -X we lose our board as well, and if my opponent was not completely out of gas, they were able to follow up with a Elspeth Conquers Death or a Questing Beast that really punished me for it and ended the game. This is a very grindy deck that can just go off and win with a Scute Swarm and a Felidar Retreat as stated above and Oops its way into a win. Last week, we got an early look at Zendikar Rising Standard with UG Kicker, but today, we kick off our exploration of the format proper (in best-of-three) with one of the most spectacular budget decks we've played in a long time: Scute-tate. Standard Boros Invoke Premium Deck Guide February 2023: Is Combo Now Tier 1? 94% of 7558 decks +93% synergy. As for our non-budget build, the non-land cards in the main deck remain unchanged, but we do get some meaningful upgrades in the mana base and sideboard. Yeah, they can bounce it but we can recast it. It is in virtually none of the top competitive tournament decks, so it could be that it is only overpowered in best-of-one because thats where most of the player base lies in MTG Arena. It's not even skill, you literally can't counter it. It allows you to copy the tokens that Ivy creates and choose new targets to get even more value out of them (sadly, these copies are not cast and dont allow Ivy to trigger again). Let's start with the bad news: there isn't really a way to make Scute-tate ultra-budget in paper because Scute Swarm itself spiked massively in price in the past week (when I first started working on the deck, itwasultra-budget, but that was when Scute Swarm was $1.50 rather than $11). Archipelagore has a stacking freeze effect for each time it mutates. Is Koth actually good? Castle Garenbrig is here because youll be casting a lot of creatures. Gemrazer lets you destroy an opponents target artifact or enchantment. This site is unaffiliated. Finally, Tangled Florahedron gives us a mana dork that can also be a land to trigger our Scute Swarm. Quasiduplicate allows you to start copying your non-legendary mutations early. This deck also plays a few cards that would just never see play unless it was a draft deck such as Murasa Rootgrazer. If the Henge is in play remove it ASAP. Theres also the color branded Simic Signet, Simic Locket, and Talisman of Curiosity. You can hang onto Decisive Denial as a two mana counterspell or use it to cause one creature you control to fight another you dont. Migratory Greathorn is basically a free 2-for-1 for them if they remove it so I dont even bother. In its current form, its total settles somewhere between $275-$325 (at the time of publishing). I am posting the decklist to give anyone else who loves Scute Swarm a deck idea, and get some more ideas of how to use him. It doesn't combo. I see it so rarely (because it's either a $4,000 "I win" deck or a new player being enamored with how cool Slivers. $1.40. Migratory Greathorn tutors a basic land onto the battlefield tapped. While I'm not sure it can be top tier thanks to the Ugin problem, it does seem good enough to rank up on the Arena ladder (especially against non-Ugin decks), and it's super fun to play, doing some truly spectacular things thanks to Scute Swarm! Heliods Intervention can be used in the late game to clean up the board when we have fallen behind. You can also follow me on my social media which is linked below! By the time you're ready to pump out tokens they tend to be flying over you for lethal. The immediate 3/3s are great, and I can easily see a spot for her in the sideboard but now is not the time. The most important thing this deck needs to improve is surviving long enough against Mono-White to get a board going without relying solely Doomskar. We've updated our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. The sideboard, on the other hand, could use some tweaking. Sem categoria. 1.44-2.08. Whenever a creature you control mutates, it also gets a +1/+1 counter and you gain 2 life. The good news is that many of our mutaters generate value immediately, so even if it does happen, we've hopefully gotten enough value that it won't be too painful. I bring in Chainweb Aracnir as it is a great blocker and threat we can escape and use our milled graveyard as a resource for. All rights reserved. Budget Magic: Is $35 Mono-White Soldiers the Best Deck in Standard? I cut Lotus Cobra because it is a terrible blocker, attacker, and a magnet for the Bonecrusher Giant. Command Beacon helps to get Ivy back on the battlefield after its been bounced back to the Command Zone. Parcelbeast is a cheap mutater that can also draw us a card and, if it's a land, put it directly on the battlefield. You have Flood of Tears and Slip Out the Back in hand. I often cast these on any Rogue in play when there is a threat of them flashing in Zareth San, the Trickster. This does mean replacing Sea-Dasher Octopus and Illuna, Apex of Wishes with Lore Drakkis, which looks weird in a deck without any instants or sorceries to return from the graveyard, but is still solid as a cheap way to mutate and trigger Auspicious Starrix and Migratory Greathorn. The only real relevance of this card is finding 2 lands, especially in Standard. Theres repeatable artifact and. Auspicious Starrix stacks a pseudo-cascade effect each time it mutates. Your email address will not be published. Scute Swarm is a card that fascinates me because I hear so many players on the casual side of the meta claim that it is extremely overpowered and singlehandedly caused MTG Arena to restrict the amount of tokens players can make. If you target your commander with something, you can create a token of Ivy too since the tokens arent legendary. The copies that Ivy creates become tokens if theyre permanents like auras, so every aura you play ends up netting you two on the battlefield. Whenever we mutate it, we get to put the top X permanents of our deck onto the battlefield, where X is the number of times we've mutated. Utokian Fractalnator At its heart, this is a Voltron/mutate deck that heavily relies on Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief being on the battlefield and soaking up the benefits of your mutations and other spells. You dont necessarily have to have Swarm and 6 lands because you get a cat and insect token or just an insect and put counters on your board and build an army. Share Tweet Copy URL. This matchup is grindy, but another matchup that is even. It is a legendary 4-drop, thus drawing too many can be a death sentence. Turn 4 mutate the swarm with Migratory Greathorn allowing you to search lands and clone the swarm; Turn 5 start a land deploying barrage mutating the swarm and using whatever you need to make a swarm of the swarm and watch why this deck should be banned. You draw a card, play a land, and pass your turn having spent no mana. It's there to bounce cards like Blood On The Snow and Alrund's Epiphany to blow out games but generally is not good against aggro. In general, the deck felt solid. Slippery Bogle also has built in hexproof for a single green or blue mana. Types: Creature Beast. 16x Forest. For a good backup plan, Scute Swarm is a great standalone threat that also has insane synergy with Mutate creatures (Scute Swarm tokens will copy all attributes of the original, including any mutations on it!) $1.96. Please enable JavaScript to get the best experience from this site. . 4 Lotus Cobra. One of the biggest downsides of playing a deck full of mutate creatures is that they are mostly overcosted if we have to cast them naturally. Cardhoarder 17 Tix. I think this matchup is even and it doesnt change after board. It has the following text: Landfall: when a land enters the battlefield under your control, create a 1/1 green insect token. Thanks to Scute Swarm's ability to grow exponentially, we can easily end up with hundreds or even thousands of massive mutated Auspicious Starrix Scute Swarms on the battlefield in one big turn, which we can then use to beat our opponent down. scute swarm combo explained . But it's proven itself to be an extremely scary card thanks to its ability to start duplicating itself, rather than making a 1/1 Insect token, once we get up to six lands. This little guy is a weird card and its hard find a home for it other than this deck. Have Ivy trigger off of Slip and target your mutate assistant, then have a copy of Slip target Ivy. What changes would you make with the deck? The +1/+1 to legendary creatures is a nice bonus, but it gets better because your original Ivy gets bigger with each additional instance of it. Scute Swarm. When we played against Four-Color Omnath, we were in anearly position to out-value the landfall deck and win the match, but timely Ugin, the Spirit Dragons bailed our opponent out twice on the turn before they would take lethal. 23 24. So you basically just get hella 3/4s instead of hella 1/1s. You also need to protect Ivy in more ways than one. Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief | Illustration by Evyn Fong. Plus, as a bonus, you'll probably get to break Arena on occasion by Scute Swarming until its brain explodes! Instead of waiting for a Mutate creature and trying to go off with Scute Swarm the way Simic does, this deck pairs the bugs with Felidar Retreat. (Plus, we do have some instants and sorceries after sideboarding.) Conoce los ms interesantes rinconces de los alrededores de Kobe. Slip Out the Back is very nice protection for a heavy hitter mutation target or for Ivy in case a board wipe shows up. Do you have another theme that you think suits Ivy better? Possibly Migratory Greathorn but I have really enjoyed it so far. Playing Felidar Retreat or Esika's Chariot on turn 3 is very strong and Lotus would be a good way to do that besides Prosperous Innkeeper. Tangled Florahedron: Another card I would love in this deck if the meta wasnt so aggressive. I bring in Elspeth Conquers Death because it takes care of basically everything in their deck. The big key is not letting them curve out into The Great Henge. Articles and comments are user-submitted and do not represent official endorsements of this site. Low Curve Deck - You need 1 or 2 lands to function and have no 3-drops in the deck. Twinning Staff allows you to have Ivy copy any targeted spell twice and lets you choose the target for the second copy. Its convoluted, but I still find it very clever: Have at least Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief, Twinning Staff, and Errant, Street Artist on the battlefield. This freaking combo is so God damn stupid op. You then mutate that Stomper. Once we get going, this often means that every time we mutate, we are putting several lands into play to trigger Scute Swarm's ability. Massively ramping for mutating a creature on top of Scute Swarm and getting its 2nd landfall trigger on turn 3 The Doom decks do as well, but they have a lot of cards that just do nothing and can end up just shuffling through their deck while we answer what they have and apply pressure. This deck is a bit different from other Voltron decks because you do your best to make as many mutated Ivys as possible. All in all, we finished 3-2 with Scute-tate, losing to a UB Rogue-ish Flash deck that seemed like a really tough matchup, thanks to our opponent's endless counters and removal, and to Four-Color Omnath, in a match where we took game one and then lost games two and three after going off the turn before our opponent would die thanks to Ugin janking us out. With the amount of ramp and repeatable land tutoring, you could switch out the fetch lands. Bringing back a blocker or threat should also not be overlooked. As always, leave your thoughts, ideas, opinions, and suggestions in the comments and you can reach me on Twitter @SaffronOlive or at SaffronOlive@MTGGoldfish.com. Or turn 6 scute, land, mutate migratory greathorn. In the ideal scenario against an aggressive deck where I have it out and my opponent has nothing, then it is the best card in the deck. Then your scutes get nice big bodies. Enjoy our content? Join our Premium community, get access to exclusive content, remove all advertisements, and more! I also spend a lot of time playing best-of-one games for my videos and I dont think I have ever played against it either. With Ivy and several mutations/mutate targets having built in evasion in the form of flying, this can be managed. I replaced her with Scavenging Ooze, giving us a form of life gain, graveyard control and a threat all in one convenient package. One of the biggest combos in the deck isn't a wincon or a repeatable combo.
